Welcome Class of 2027!

A message to our incoming students, from a rising senior.

Dear Stevens Institute of Technology Class of 2027,

Congratulations on your acceptance to Stevens! I want to extend a warm welcome on behalf of the Stevens Alpha Phi community. I can already tell you are so bright and there is so much in store for you and your next four years here at Stevens :)

Starting college is both an exhilarating and transformative experience. It's a time of discovery, challenges, growth, and new beginnings. While it is scary, (trust me I was so so so nervous on my first day almost four years ago) you'll find yourself surrounded by a community that is eager to support your academic pursuits, personal development, and extracurricular passions. I am proud to say that the Stevens community, every single peer and faculty member around you, wants you to grow and succeed and make you feel like home.

I can promise you that you will never have a dull moment here at Stevens. Your professors are experts and committed to teaching you and helping you in all you inquire. Your friends will be there to support you, and be right next to you in the library at midnight as you study for finals. Student organizations will be planning food nights, music festivals, and game nights with awesome prizes throughout the semester. Our sports teams will always have an event for you to show off your Duck pride. And Hoboken’s New York City view and iconic Washington Street will leave you breathless and your stomachs full of delicious foods.

Remember that your education extends beyond the classroom walls. Take advantage of the various clubs, sports, organizations, and activities that spark even the slightest interest. Sure you will learn new skills and be a leader, but it will connect you with people who share the same passion as you, perhaps creating lifelong friendships. For example, I never would have imagined joining a sorority due to the media’s stereotypes of it. However, I’m glad to say that Greek life at Stevens is much different and more than a group of friends. It’s a community where your friends want to challenge you to be a better version of yourself and also be by your side to cheer you on (shoutout to my Alpha Phi's. I love you all so much and wouldn’t be the person I am without you all :) <3)

While you may be excited to get all A’s and meet as many people as possible, remember that college life is about balance. Please please PLEASE make time for self-care and well-being. Your mental, emotional, and physical health are essential components of your success anywhere you go. Whether that’s taking a nap or going on a walk or treating yourself to your favorite sweet treat, remember that you deserve a break! Celebrate your successes, no matter how small.

As you join the Stevens family, you become a part of a rich tradition of innovation, scholarship, and community engagement. The friendships you form and the memories you create here will last a lifetime. Cherish each moment, make the most of every opportunity, and strive to leave a positive impact on the world around you.

Once again, welcome to Stevens. You are going to accomplish so many great things, and I wish you the best of luck at your time here. Go Ducks :)

Sincerely,

Janelle Garcia

Executive Administrator
